Riga, Latvia

May 27
On our way from Lithuania we stopped in Riga, Latvia for Chris's work.  Had a short but lovely walk trough old town, had a delicious dinner at Italian restaurant and bought some original prints from the street.  This lady wanted 1 Euro per print, so we bought five of them just to give her some business.  Now we need to frame them:-) (which in Chris's words will cost us an arm and a leg:-)

Old town is beautiful , not as big as Tallinn old town but still lovely. We went up to the top of a church steeple and took some panoramic pictures.  wish it wasn't as windy and cold, or we would have stayed a but longer to look.  The boys were shivering and we wanted to get some dinner by then.

A Trip to Lithuania for a Wedding

Friday, May 23th - we took 9 hr road trip to Lithuania.  After 3.5 hours we stopped at Latvia border and had some food. Then drove all the way in to Lithuania to arrive my parents house at 7:30pm.  Saturday, May 24th - it was also my parents 45th wedding anniversary.  They got surprise flowers delivery from their friends.

Later that night we all went to the wedding of my first cousin Reda and now her husband Darius.  it was 1st Lithuanian wedding for Chris.  He was amazed how much food was served and the amount of drinking that went on during the two days of the wedding.
The wedding hall, food and decorations

family members: Top row - Uncle Petras and my moms sister Gene; Darius, Jurate and Chris; Kestutis and I; youngest memebr - Augustina; Bottom row: cousin Gediminas and I; Aunt Romute and Kestutis; Vytas, cousin Jolita, Kestutis, Romute and uncle Romutis.

The wedding party have arrived to the hall.  Everyone looked dashing!  Kids had fun blocking the road to the hall and asked for candy - each filled their bags to the top:-) .  Top right corner: brides and grooms parents are waiting to great them as married couple with traditional : bread, salt and water.

More food and deserts.  My patents brought to the weeding with them "Skruzdelynas"  it's thin fried cookie that's been drizzled with honey and staked to look like "Ant house" (it's  custom for the closes family members to bring cakes)

We wanted to take family photo, only Dite is missing
We also did pictures with some of my cousins and their husbands (not all were there):

The boys have been waiting patiently for a fishing trip with Diedukas.  We finally drove to my grandmothers farm and fished in the pond that my uncles have dug up for the family to have a place to go fishing.  My dad brought 4 rods and a big net, just incase we did get lucky.  Well only few small perch fish that was the extent of our luck:-)  the boys still had fun and they will remmeber that day for ever!
